--------------------------------------------------------------------- The Nordic Artists' Centre Dale is designed by the architects Haga & Grov from Stavanger, in collaboration with architects Hjeltnes and Egge. The project of Haga & Grov won a competition in 1992. Their design has been published world-wide in several books and magazines on architecture and has won the Houen prize, one of the most important prizes for contemporary architecture in Norway
The centre has five private residencies of various sizes for the selected artists. The largest residence (91mē) has 3 bedrooms, two houses (67 mē) have 2 bedrooms and two have one bedroom (56 mē). The houses have bathroom, combined kitchen and living room and are fully equipped. The centre has 5 identical north-lit studios, each 50 mē. The artists studios have common design making it possible to work with various techniques. The studio walls are white, floors are wooden and height to the ceiling is 5 meters. The studios have wireless internet access. Artists have access to the main workshop equipped for working with wood. The workshop is also furnished with welding equipment. See photos from the wood workshop HERE. All together the studio building area is about 670 mē. The building also contains a darkroom, ( for black & white prints, small/medium size negatives), room for surface treatment, a printing press ( for relief printing techniques such as woodcut, linocut etc.)-see photos HERE. There is also a lunch area and storage rooms. The centre's site is suited for outdoor work with approximately 70 CA available for use.
